Armenia is a country with ancient history and rich culture. In fact, it is one of the oldest countries in the world. Scientific research, numerous archaeological findings and old manuscripts prove that the Armenian Highlands are the very Cradle of Civilization.
Some of the world’s oldest things were found in Armenia. The world’s oldest leather shoe (5,500 years old), sky observatory (7,500 years old), depictions of agriculture (7,500 years old) and wine-making facility (6,100 years old) all were found in the territory of Armenia.
Breakfast at the hotel. We will start our excursion from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, one of the world's oldest cities. According to popular opinion, Yerevan was founded by the name of Erebuni by King Argishti I of the Kingdom of Van in the 8th century B.C. In Yerevan you will visit a number of historical-cultural sites, such as the Matenadaran, where the written history of the Armenian and foreign nations is written in Arabic, Persian, Ottoman, Assyrian, Old Georgian, Greek, Latin, Russian (about 18,000 manuscripts), Yerevan Brandy Factory, where you can get acquainted with the history of Armenian brandy and enjoy its immortal taste. Take a stroll through the streets of Yerevan to discover its architecture, whose main attractions are pink tuff and sculptures with national ornaments. Therefore, Yerevan is often called the Pink City. We will continue our tour of the masterpiece of the Armenian Church, the Mother Cathedral of Echmiadzin, built in 301-303 after Christianity was adopted as a state religion by order of Gregory the Illuminator and considered one of the oldest cathedrals in the world. The temple, along with some of the important early medieval churches in the vicinity, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. The Zvartnots Temple, also referred to as St. Gregory, was built on the site where historians say Gregory the Illuminator met King Trdat of Armenia. During this meeting, the king adopted Christianity. At the same time, in 301, Armenia became the first state to adopt Christianity as a state religion. Breakfast at the hotel. Sanahin and Haghpat Monasteries are located in one of the most picturesque places of Armenia in Lori province. The monastic complexes were prominent centers of medieval spiritual, cultural and scientific education. They were built in the 10th -13th centuries. The monastic complexes of Haghpat and Sanahin are listed as a single monument in the UNESCO World Heritage List as unique, inclusive values created by humanity. The Dendropark of Stepanavan is located in Lori region. The park was founded in 1931 by Polish engineer-forestologist Edmon Leonovich. The Botanical Garden covers about 35 hectares. It consists of natural forests, ornamental plants, small leafy alleyways, and other wildlife. Most of the plants were taken from the Yerevan Botanical Garden, as well as from many other countries - Georgia, Ukraine, Russia, the Far East, etc. The Dendropark has a special California sequoia. The five huge trees that are planted next to each other are still young and will grow tall for several hundred years. In the spring the Dendropark begins the process of plant pollination, which has a number of healing properties and has a positive effect on health. Return to Yerevan.
Breakfast at the hotel. Gyumri is the second largest city in Armenia, and is the center of the Shirak region, located in the northwest of the country. Being one of the oldest settlements in Armenia with its three thousand years of history, Gyumri is a great place to visit and admire. Gyumri is a city rich in a variety of architectural styles and tricks. It is one of the rare Armenian cities that still retains the 19th century architectural spirit. Buildings made of black and red tufa, sculpted facades, old wooden doors and shaped gutters will make your journey unforgettable. One of the famous places in Gyumri is the “Dzitoghyants” House Museum, which presents the everyday life, culture and history of Gyumri. In Gyumri you will visit the Gallery of Aslamazian sisters. Here you will get acquainted with the art and life of well-known Armenian artists of the Soviet era, as well as the art styles used by the sisters. You will attend a master class in pottery. Breakfast at the hotel. Our excursion starts from Areni village. It is best known for its wine production. In January 2011 archaeologists announced the discovery of the earliest known winery, the Areni-1 winery, seven months after the world's oldest leather shoe, the Areni-1 shoe, was discovered in the same cave. The winery, which is over six-thousand years old, contains a wine press, fermentation vats, jars, and cups. Archaeologists also found grape seeds and vines of the species Vitis vinifera We will visit Areni Wine Factory, which is located in Areni, village. The Factory was founded in 1994 in Areni village of Vayots Dzor region on the initiative of the Simonyan family. The factory has a wide assortment of Armenian wines. Here you will find the history of millennia of wine making. In the Vayots Dzor you will visit one of the unique churches of Armenia - Noravank. The monastery complex was built in 13th -14th centuries. In the second half of 13th century the architect Siranes acted and, in the first half of 14th century, prominent miniaturist, sculptor and architect Momik. The rich surrounding nature makes the look of the church even more breathtaking. “The Wings of Tatev” ropeway is an air route to Syunik's natural and historical riches. It is the shortest road leading to the Tatev Monastery and the longest reversible ropeway in the world (5752m) recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. At the other end of the ropeway you will have a beautiful view. In the middle of the high mountains and deep gorge lies one of the most famous Armenian monastic complex - Tatev. Tatev Monastery is a historical monument of the 9th century, an exceptional example of Armenian architecture, one of the oldest spiritual centers, as well as the largest university in medieval Armenia. According to scientists, Armenia is one of the countries with the oldest observatory, as evidenced by one of the oldest megalithic monuments - Karahunj, Zorats Karer. It is proven that Zorats Karer complex was built in B.C. in the VI millennium. Another observatory equivalent to Zorats Karer is the well-known British Stonehenge. Return to Yerevan.
Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to the Garni Temple, which is the only standing legacy of the Hellenistic era that has reached us. The castle was built probably in 2nd century BC..It was destroyed in the 1st century BC by Roman troops. In the 70s of the 1st century Garni was restored by King Trdat the 1st, whose Greek inscription calls it "the impregnable fortress". The Garni Temple was dedicated to Mihr, the god of war and the sun. In Garni village you will have the unique opportunity to attend lavash baking ceremony. It is no secret that lavash has a special meaning for Armenians and its baking process is a great and beautiful ritual.Ayrivank because of the cave structures, and since the 13th century Geghard was held in honor of the holy spear in the monastery (by which Jesus was crucified). Visit to Lake Sevan, one of the most picturesque places in Armenia. Sevan is considered to be the second largest freshwater lake in the world. In the north-western part of Lake Sevan is the Sevan peninsula, where the unique Sevanavank monastic complex (built in the 9th -10th centuries) rises. In 874, two churches were built here by Ashot Bagratuni's daughter Mariam, the Holy Apostle (the Great) and St. Hovhann Karapet. Return to Yerevan.
